This is a central course location where we:- discover where you are on your e-learning journey,
- collaborate with our peers in some activities during the ongoing programme
- get an overview of the Moodle and Mahara platforms and their purposes
- ...and hopefully see how far you have come by the end of the course!


This course shows you how to set up a basic profile in Mahara, upload resources and create a colourful multi-media rich view as a way of presenting content and learning.

You will learn to upload files into Moodle and how to manage your files area. You will learn to link to external websites and how to lay out Moodle Course Pages in a clearly structured way for your learners to use.
You will learn to use 'automated' online activities which can be graded within Moodle's gradebook, namely: Quiz, Assignment, Lesson, Glossary.
This type of activity can make your e-learning more interactive for learners while still incurring low staffing costs for the training provider organisation.

People learn best when they can apply learning points to their real-world needs. A Training Provider can use modern technologies to allow a work-based learner to get access to a tutor's expertise – and to pair and groupwork activities - via the internet.
In this course, you will learn to set up social activities for your learners online using:- Forums
- Moodle Wiki
- Tags
- Mahara Groups
- Calendar & Private Interactive Journals
You will learn how to set up and coherently structure blended and purely online courses using Moodle and Mahara. These courses will be driven by teaching aims and evaluable learning outcomes.
You will also learn how to “pimp” your Mahoodle using:- GIMP (Free Graphics Editing Software)
- Audacity (Free Audio Editing Software)
- DimDim (Free VideoConferencing Software)
- Free Video editing Software.

You will learn how to “Tutor” people via online learning. You will develop practical skills for: Task Setting, Pair Work and Group Work, Learner Differentiation, Weaving, Summarising and more.- Hot potatoes
